The game was originally racked the same as 9ball but twisting the rack gives the game its own look. A player knows it is not 9ball right away. Looking at that 1ball, 9ball, and object ball lined up in a row sure is tempting. It is obvious the object ball is going to come back hard and clear anything left in its path. We will play like that until someone figures out a hack. Always spot the 9ball on the break.

Putting

In 9ball, a common rule is after the cue ball strikes the lowest ball on the table a ball must be pocketed or driven to a rail for the shot to be legal. The same rule applies Texas One Shot unless the 9ball moves. The intent of the rule is to prevent an easy snooker of your opponent. If the 9ball moves and you snooker yourself nobody cares but you. Being able to softly set yourself up for a winning shot is encouraged, not a foul!

Square Up:

To discourage hacking of the Phat Rack players are required to break from the square defined by the first diamond in from each side at the head of the table and the second diamond down each rail from the head of the table. So always Square Up before the break, it’s the right thing to do.

By Definition:

On the break the 9ball is deemed to have moved ‘by definition’. Energy passed through the 9ball during the break and even if the 9ball is still sitting on the spot it is deemed to have moved. That principle is used through-out the game, if energy passes through the 9ball it is deemed to have moved.
